The Extraordinary meeting of the APEC Port Service Network Council was held in Vancouver, Canada from 4 to 6 May 2009. Council Members from Australia; Canada; China; Hong Kong, China; Japan; Republic of Korea; the Philippines; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand and the United States of America, over 30 Regular Members from China and Hong Kong, China and observers attended the meeting.
Dr. ZHANG Linjiang, the newly-appointed Deputy Secretary-General and the staff members of the Secretariat to the Council.
The Secretariat made a presentation on the development of the APEC port database, giving an overview of the framework, structure, major functions, data deployment and the collection of data for the database.
APSN Conference on Port Development was scheduled to be held back-to-back with next Council meeting on the week of 2 November, 2009 in Shenzhen.
A training course of port security was planned in 2009 and China hosted the training programme and provided the local costs for one nominee.
The 2nd Meeting of the APSN Council was held in Shenzhen, China from 4 to 5 November 2009. Council Members from Canada; China; Hong Kong, China; Japan; Republic of Korea; the Philippines; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand and Vietnam were in attendance. Some 15 Regular Members from China and Hong Kong, China and observers also attended the meeting.
Mr. Jerry Rysanek of Canada was re-elected as President and Mr. Viroj Chongchansittho of Thailand was re-elected as Vice-President by acclamation with the support of the entire Council.
Mr. Fei Weijun was appointed as the new Secretary-General of the APSN.
Canada, China, Hong Kong, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Thailand hosted a meeting with local companies of port industry to promote APSN and attract new members to join in APSN.
